After successfully completing my degree, I worked as an ecologist and spent three years working in the corporate world, but ultimately knew I wanted to work in education. I was first inspired to become a teacher by my work as an outdoor instructor before university, as I found encouraging and inspiring young people hugely rewarding.

I researched teacher training courses and The OAKS stood out for me. I followed the PGCE route as I wanted the academic recognition that comes with the PGCE, but also wanted to learn the practical side.

James Taylor, ECT

I liked being able to learn and develop my teaching skills in a safe environment, where I was comfortable and confident to try new things. The support from the staff at The OAKS was amazing.

I chose to specialise in geography, as I want to instil the importance of looking after our planet in future generations and it allows me to use my existing knowledge and experience.

The introduction camp was probably the best aspect, as it allowed us to gel as a cohort and form supportive relationships which proved invaluable. No one is ever left alone to struggle at The OAKS and you really feel part of a family.
